Untie the knot in your stomach - Strategies for Having Difficult Conversations What are some of the difficult conversations you face personally and professionally? What makes them so challenging? Are there advantages to engaging in these conversations?
This session will provide solutions..... learn how to practice effective conversations and add techniques to your communication toolbox. Practical tools explored: skills to identify crucial conversations and questioning, use of nonviolent communication (observation, feeling, needs, request), and understanding of five different conflict management styles.
Also hear more about advocacy and inquiry, key phrases to use at key times, and other useful tips. Learn when to give feedback, how to give feedback, and when to receive feedback.

CASSY VAN DYKE, SPHR Talent Management Consultant American Family Insurance
Cassy Van Dyke is a Talent Management Consultant at American Family Insurance, where she works with leadership assessment, succession planning, leadership development, performance management, and more. Ms. Van Dyke is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). She has completed Bachelors and Masters-level courses at University of Wisconsin – Madison, Madison Area Technical College, and Upper Iowa University. Ms. Van Dyke has extensive professional, technical, and personal development training and holds a certification in Web page design.
Ms. Van Dyke currently serves as the Greater Madison Area (GMA) SHRM President Elect, and is a member of American Society for Training and Development (ASTD). ANTHONY J. DIX, PHR, MBA HR Services Manager UW Medical Foundation Anthony Dix is the HR Services Manager at UW Medical Foundation, where he manages the recruitment, employee relations and compensation and benefit programs
Mr. Dix is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR). He holds a Bachelors degree from UW-Whitewater in Business Administration and an MBA from Edgewood College.
Mr. Dix currently serves as the Greater Madison Area (GMA) SHRM President, is a volunteer on the WI State SHRM Conference Planning Committee and is a member of the UW-Whitewater HR Advisory Board.
